Single service comparison

Google Cloud Migration Center is a single first-party product that spans discovery, assessment, cost estimation, and execution orchestration, exposing a REST API and Console workflow under one quota model. Huawei distributes these capabilities across multiple bounded services: MGC for assessment and governance, SMS for host-level OS migration, DRS for database replication, and OMS/CDM for object and batch data movement. Architects must therefore compose a pipeline across several Huawei consoles and IAM scopes rather than rely on one control plane, and each service has its own regional availability, quotas, and rate limits.

Migration Center emphasizes fit and modernization guidance (e.g., right-sized Compute Engine machine types, containerization candidates, detected-software insights) as first-class outputs; Huawei MGC is positioned around migration readiness and target-pattern recommendation for Huawei Cloud landing zones rather than automated VM-to-container modernization. Assessment depth and the supported detected-software catalog differ, so do not assume one-to-one detection parity, and validate workload-by-workload before cutover.

Operating model and pricing diverge: Migration Center's assessment and discovery features are listed with no additional service cost, with billing only on target infrastructure and any transferred data. Huawei MGC governance is generally offered without a separate license fee, but the execution path consumes paid SMS, DRS, OMS, CDM, network egress, and target resource costs. Recalculate total cost of ownership against Huawei separately, since Google's unit pricing, interconnect fees, and SKU granularity do not transfer directly.

Start by replicating the Migration Center assessment in Huawei MGC: re-run discovery (or import the Google asset export) to inventory hosts, dependencies, databases, and storage objects, and confirm MGC's recommended Huawei Cloud target patterns against your sizing data. Choose per-workload targets (ECS for lift-and-shift VMs, CCE for containerized workloads, GaussDB/RDS for databases, OBS for object data) and validate region/quota availability for each before committing wave boundaries.

Map the execution plane service by service: use SMS for OS-level host migration from Google Compute Engine or on-prem VMware, DRS for homogeneous and heterogeneous database replication to GaussDB/RDS, and OMS or CDM for object and file-data transfer into OBS. Do not assume Migration Center outputs can drive SMS/DRS directly; reconcile asset IDs and dependency graphs manually since the two vendors' data models and APIs are not interoperable.

Plan validation and cutover with explicit checkpoints: define replication-lag thresholds for DRS, SMS consistency checks, and data-reconciliation jobs after OMS/CDM completes, and document rollback criteria for each wave. Because Huawei does not offer a single end-to-end orchestration console equivalent to Migration Center, automate wave sequencing with scripts or CodeArts Pipelines and keep runbooks per workload.

Anticipate gaps and cost-model shifts: features like Google's detected-software insights, rapid cost estimation, and Gemini-assisted modernization recommendations have no confirmed MGC equivalent, so budget for manual assessment effort. Re-price the full run (SMS hours, DRS replication volume, OMS/CDM jobs, cross-region and inter-region egress, and target ECS/GaussDB/OBS consumption) against Huawei's published pricing, as Google's no-charge assessment layer does not imply Huawei execution is free.
