Google Cloud Bare Metal Solution provides dedicated single-tenant physical servers hosted in Google-managed colocation facilities and linked to a customer VPC through Partner Interconnect with sub-2 ms latency. It is purpose-built for licensing- and certification-sensitive workloads such as Oracle and SAP, where bring-your-own-OS and unmodified execution matter. Google manages facility, power, cooling, and interconnect while the customer keeps root access and operates the OS, database, and applications.

Differences vs Huawei

GCP Bare Metal Solution is not a self-service compute resource inside your VPC; it is dedicated infrastructure provisioned in Google-operated colocation and linked back to a Google Cloud project by Partner Interconnect. Server provisioning is subscription-based via a sales engagement with defined SLAs for uptime and interconnect. Huawei BMS, by contrast, is a native console- and API-managed cloud instance provisioned in minutes inside a VPC, billed monthly per server, with no separate interconnect procurement required.

GCP BMS is narrowly scoped to certified Oracle and SAP stacks on Intel Cascade Lake hardware with NVMe tier-1 storage and 100 Gb networking, optimized to preserve on-premises licensing and runbooks. Huawei BMS is a broader bare-metal compute service spanning general-purpose, disk-intensive, GPU, and Kunpeng-based flavors for databases, HPC, big data, and AI. It is not certified against the same Oracle or SAP stack matrix, so workload-specific certification must be validated per case before assuming parity.

On GCP, the customer retains root access and runs OS, database, and application lifecycle while Google manages facility, hardware, and interconnect; cloud service integration happens over the interconnect rather than inside the VPC fabric. On Huawei, BMS shares the QingTian cloud fabric natively, attaching EVS, OBS, VPC, security, and Cloud Eye services directly. Operational tooling, monitoring, and backup integration therefore differ in both depth and network topology between the two operating models.

Migration to Huawei

Start by cataloging the workload on GCP BMS: workload type (Oracle, SAP, or general), OS, CPU/memory/storage shape, storage topology (NVMe local versus Cloud Storage), interconnect bandwidth, and licensing or certification constraints. Huawei BMS is the closest compute equivalent for dedicated single-tenant servers, but validate that the exact flavor, OS image, and any Oracle or SAP certification exists in the target region. Where certification is absent consider ECS with dedicated hosts or managed database services.

Rebuild the operating environment on Huawei BMS using an approved image, then move data and configuration. For Oracle, reuse native replication tools already in use on GCP BMS — Data Guard, GoldenGate, Data Pump, or RMAN backups — landing them on the new BMS with EVS-attached storage. There is no one-click cross-cloud migration path; treat it as a rehost with manual OS install, network reconfiguration onto the Huawei VPC, and re-establishment of Direct Connect where hybrid connectivity is required.

Validate feature-by-feature parity before cutover: storage performance, network latency to dependent services, backup and disaster recovery behavior, and application connectivity. Use Huawei Cloud Eye for monitoring and Cloud Backup and Recovery (CBR) for OS and EVS disk protection to replace GCP BMS snapshot tooling. Run soak and failover tests. Plan a DNS- or routing-based cutover with a defined rollback window, since the two environments will not run synchronously without explicit replication established up front.

Expect a pricing model shift: GCP BMS is subscription hardware plus interconnect billing with Oracle licensing carried over, while Huawei BMS is monthly per server with separate EVS, bandwidth or traffic, and optional management charges. Recalculate TCO against peak load, storage growth, and cross-region or Direct Connect traffic. Note gaps the Huawei side may not cover identically — Google-managed facility operations, specific Oracle or SAP certifications, and Partner Interconnect SLAs — and confirm equivalent Huawei support responsibilities before committing production.
