Power BI is Microsoft's self-service and enterprise BI service for modeling, paginated and interactive reports, dashboards, and embedded analytics. It centers on a cloud-hosted semantic model in the Power BI Service, dataset refresh from many sources, row-level security, and Power BI Desktop authoring, with capacity-based SKUs (Power BI Pro/Premium/Fabric) governing compute, refresh, and consumption.

Differences vs Huawei
DataArts Insight is the closest Huawei counterpart for interactive dashboards and self-service analytics, but the boundary differs from Power BI. Power BI combines a thick-desktop authoring client (Power BI Desktop), a shared semantic model, and a managed rendering/embedding service, whereas DataArts Insight is a console-driven BI service that relies on Huawei's data platform (GaussDB/DWS, MRS, DLI) as the analytical engine and exposes dashboards, metrics, and an embeddable component. There is no like-for-like PBIX semantic-model format or desktop equivalent, so report definitions, DAX measures, and Power Query M mashups are not portable artifacts.
Scaling, HA, and integration differ materially. Power BI Premium/Fabric capacities are reserved, capacity-billed Microsoft compute with auto-scale and XMLA/REST APIs for dataset management and lifecycle DevOps. DataArts Insight SLAs are quoted at 99.9% and it is designed to integrate natively with Huawei DataArts Studio governance and DWS/DLI/MRS, but capacity, refresh, and concurrency tuning are bounded by the backing data warehouse cluster you provision rather than a single BI capacity. Expect to model and operate the underlying GaussDB(DWS)/MRS cluster for query latency, not just the BI layer.
Operational responsibility and ecosystem differ. Power BI gates content with workspaces, deployment pipelines, sensitivity labels, and Microsoft 365 governance, and integrates with Azure Data Factory, Purview, and Excel. DataArts Insight places more responsibility on the Huawei data platform and DataArts Studio for lineage, governance, and metric unification, and provides embedded analytics plus a Pangu-for-BI natural-language assistant. Row/column security, dataset sharing, and app distribution models are not Power BI equivalents; validate each governance, identity, and embedding requirement against DataArts Insight capabilities before assuming parity.
Migration to Huawei
Assess the Power BI estate by inventorying workspaces, datasets, refresh schedules, RLS roles, embedded consumers, and DAX/M dependencies before choosing targets. Treat DataArts Insight as the primary dashboard and self-service-analytics equivalent, and pair it with GaussDB(DWS) or MRS/DLI for the semantic engine that Power BI's capacity provided. Recognize there is no PBIX or DAX/M import; semantic models, measures, and Power Query mashups must be re-authored as DWS views/cubes, DataArts Studio metrics, and DataArts Insight datasets.
For data and configuration migration, replicate source tables into GaussDB(DWS), MRS, or DLI using CDM/CDM DataArts Migration or DataArts Studio DataArts Factory pipelines, then rebuild the modeled layer as star schemas or metric definitions on DWS. Re-author each report as a DataArts Insight dashboard/page, map RLS to DataArts Insight row/permission settings, and reconfigure refresh and connectivity to point at the Huawei backing store rather than Power BI gateways/datasets. No automated Power BI-to-DataArts Insight report conversion exists; expect manual re-implementation.
Validate and cut over in stages: stand up a parallel DataArts Insight + DWS environment, confirm query latency, concurrency, embedded-rendering parity, scheduled refresh, and security roles against the Power BI baseline, then migrate readers app-by-app or workspace-by-workspace. Maintain both surfaces during hypercare, audit refresh failures and dataset row counts, and only after sign-off switch embedded URLs and consumer links to the Huawei endpoints.
Account for gaps and the cost-model change. Power BI Pro/Premium/Fabric capacity billing has no direct Huawei equivalent; DataArts Insight is priced per BI instance/usage while the heavy compute sits in the separately provisioned DWS/MRS/DLI cluster plus storage and inter-region traffic costs. Rebuild TCO from peak concurrency, refresh frequency, retention, and embedded-session volume, and budget for re-training, re-authoring effort, and any missing capabilities such as paginated Reporting Services reports, lineage to Microsoft Purview, or specific Power BI custom visuals that have no DataArts Insight equivalent.
